Welcome to Folkle. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
We've written it in plain English. Privacy policies shouldn't require a law degree to understand.
We built Folkle to help parents make informed decisions — not to replace professional advice or your own judgment.
The short version: We collect the information you give us (name, email, neighborhood, kids' ages, and any recommendations you share). We use it to build the directory, contact you, and make Folkle better. We never sell your data. We never share it with advertisers or anyone else outside of what we explicitly promise. You can ask us to delete everything by emailing hellofolkle@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you sign up
- Your first name
- Your email address
- Your neighborhood (or the closest match)
- Your kids' ages (if you choose to share — helps us understand who's in the community)
- How you heard about Folkle (optional)
When you recommend a provider
- The provider's name and category
- Why you recommend them
- Your name attribution (if you choose to have your name shown alongside your recommendation)
When you visit the site
- Our hosting provider may collect standard technical logs (IP address, browser type) for security and performance. We don't use these to track individual users.
- A small piece of information ("cookie") remembers if you've dismissed the "Launching in SF" banner. Nothing sensitive.
Why we collect it
- To build the recommendations directory
- To contact you about your submissions or if you have questions
- To understand our community and improve Folkle
- To let you know when new features (like The Shop Edit) launch — if you've asked us to
Who sees it
Only Folkle — Sheetal and any team members that may join. That's it.
We don't:
- Sell your data
- Share it with advertisers
- Give it to third parties for their own use
We use trusted third-party service providers to host Folkle and operate the website securely. These providers are contractually required to handle your data in line with this policy.
Your rights
Everyone
You can email hellofolkle@gmail.com any time to:
- Ask what data we have about you
- Correct any information
- Delete all your data
- Ask any question
California residents (CCPA)
You have the same rights above under California law. We don't sell your data — there's nothing to opt out of.
European residents (GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, and export your data. Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent, given when you sign up.
Cookies & analytics
Folkle uses these cookies:
- Essential: to remember your session and if you've dismissed notifications
- Analytics: we may use analytics tools to understand how Folkle is used and improve the experience. These tools are not used to sell your personal information or serve third-party advertising.
Children
Folkle is for parents, not for children. You must be at least 18 to sign up. We don't collect any information directly from anyone under 13.
Where your data lives
Your data is stored on US-based servers operated by our third-party hosting providers.
