What's one local SF kid-friendly spot or gem you've discovered recently?

Marie 🌿 · today · Golden Gate Park

There are so many treasures inside of Golden Gate Park…and I recently discovered the peaceful beauty of Shakespeare's Garden tucked quietly next to the Academy of Science. What I love is that it's nearly fully fenced in (aside from the entrance gate) and it has a large grass lawn to have a nice picnic, run around, blow bubbles and enjoy a tucked away setting.

Bunny Cafe — such a fun find! Kids can sit and pet rescue rabbits. We went once and my kids absolutely loved it. You can have a drink too 🐰

Grace 🌿 · today · Golden Gate Park

The Cal Academy of Sciences. My kids love the Cal Academy and they frequently change their exhibits so the kids are always learning something new.

Taylor K 🌿 · today · Russian Hill / Richmond

Indoor playgrounds - we are huge fans of WOW Kids Playground on Polk St (Russian Hill) and Peek-a-Boo Factory SF on Geary (Richmond). These are great places to drop-in and get wiggles out, especially on a foggy, windy, or cold day. Great for all ages, up to upper elementary students.

Any classes / camps your kids are attending this summer for the first time and absolutely loving?

Sheetal 🌿 · yesterday · Embarcadero

My kids are doing tennis at Bay Club — Gateway location this summer and loving it. The coaches are patient and really know how to teach beginners.

Amulya 🌿 · 2 days ago · West Portal

Our 3 yr old is enjoying ballet class at Tutu school west portal. They teach the steps in a fun way that a 3 yr old can understand/relate to. Parents can sit and watch their kid learn, and it is fun to see the kids learn and enjoy ballet. We look forward to ballet class every week! Definitely recommend Tutu school for ballet!!

Laura 🌿 · today · Presidio

My daughter went to Presidio Golf camp this summer and absolutely loved it! She raved about the professional instructors, various golf areas on the course she learned to play on, technique, etiquette and of course the delicious golf cafe for lunch!

Taylor K 🌿 · today · Presidio Heights

Huge fans of the camps at Calvary Nursery School for ages 2.5 to 6. Open to the public and have different themes every week. We also love Canvas dance camps, which are fun and engaging.

A family photographer who's great with kids?

Where's the best place to get a haircut for my kids?

Grace 🌿 · one week ago · Pacific Heights
Taylor K 🌿 · today · Presidio Heights

PREP on Sacramento is great for kids -- has tablets for kids to watch a show while they get their haircuts and popcorn as a treat afterwards! It's a little expensive, which is good to know in advance.

Any places that offer childcare while parents do their own activity? (e.g., MNT in the Marina offers childcare during pilates)

Colleen 🌿 · two days ago · Richmond
Taylor K 🌿 · today · Presidio

YMCA in the Presidio offers childcare while parents work out, as long as you're a member.

Best stroller for SF hills?

Taylor K 🌿 · today · Jordan Park

Depends on the number of children you have — the Uppababy Vista is the SUV of strollers and works well with multiples, but can get heavy. It fits everything though. We are also huge fans of the Babyzen YoYo which is light and foldable, and easy to push. Great for one kid! Doona is a nice option if you need something for an infant under 2 years old that can pop in and out of a car or taxi.

Looking for a piano teacher for the kids — bonus if they can teach at home. Any favorites?

Sheetal 🌿 · yesterday · At-home lessons

Cooper Grossup from First Principles Music has been such a find. He visits at home and is patient, warm with the kids, and somehow makes practice feel like a game rather than homework.

We're planning our next feature — a curated 'Shop Edit' marketplace. What's one thing you always recommend other parents buy?

Taylor K 🌿 · today · Jordan Park

Since my oldest two kids have reached elementary school and bike riding age, we are major fans of the Woom bikes. From balance bikes to full fledged bicycles, these bikes are amazing for teaching kids to ride bikes. They are lightweight, have a great colors, and are easy to set up for parents. Highly recommend!

Mom of 2 · San Francisco

Why I started Folkle

When I became a mom and moved to San Francisco, I realized that every great recommendation came from another parent.

Whether it was finding a pediatrician, a dentist, a camp, or an activity, we were all asking the same questions in WhatsApp groups and school chats.

I started Folkle to make those trusted recommendations easier to discover, help parents find local providers through real experiences, and build the kind of local village every family deserves.
